Horse Training:

Training a horse, regardless of age, involves commitment. Passion for horses is our motivation; the results make it worth every moment. Whether you are starting a baby or have a young-mid-or older horse that needs training we will work with you to create a program that meets the needs of your horse and the goals of the rider.

Our programs can be designed around your needs:

  • Colt starting
  • Ground Work
  • Rehabilitating a horse or a rider, or both!
  • Tune-ups

We start all of our foals slowly. They are exposed to an almost endless list of stimuli from dogs, cats, and exotic parrots, fireworks, to blowing tarps, bridges and children of all ages. We provide a safe, comfortable atmosphere where our youngsters trust us and strive to please. All babies are taught to lounge in a round pen, drive, bend, flex, and go over obstacles prior to being mounted. We ride 3-4 times, at most, per week when starting them. We go by what the horse can handle, not our own agenda.

Our groundwork consists of teaching manners and helping the horse learn to read the handlers body language. We teach verbal commands that will carry into being round penned, driven and ridden. We use cavalettis, bridges; 6"-12" jumps in addition to barrels, poles, tarps etc.

Rehabbing is determined by what the horse or rider's issue is. With the rider, it's going back to basics and re-establishing a comfort level. A positive, calm atmosphere is established so that confidence becomes the norm. For the horse, we begin with daily handling with a gentle manner. Finding what makes the horse uncomfortable and working to desensitize the horse. We create NO 30 day wonders. We want horses to be happy and trustful, not just "fixed-quick." .

Tune-ups are designed with the final goal in mind. Whether fitting up for long distance riding, gymkhana events, or "unlearning" undesirable behaviors, we offer this service. Often we find an owner has a game plan in mind and then wants to try something new along the way. It's no problem to accommodate. We desire for horses and handlers to be happy together, finding any discipline fulfilling.
